Reuters, May 24, 2010: Iran's second biggest city has massively increased the amount it fines for women who fail to observe the Islamic dress code and don't cover their hair properly, media reported. Morality police around Iran are beginning their annual spring crackdown on women wearing too much makeup, daring to show their hair or dressing in a way that shows their body contours too clearly. In the holy city of Masshad, the public prosecutor has increased the fine to 1.3 million tomans, roughly $1,300 -- a hefty sum in a country where a teacher's monthly salary is around $500. "In the past the penalty for not observing the Islamic dress code was 50,000 tomans along with two months' imprisonment," Mashhad's public and revolutionary prosecutor Mahmoud Zoghi told the semi-official Fars news agency. Men are also targets of the spring crackdown as police can confiscate the cars of young males found sexually harassing or trying to pick up women. In the capital Tehran over the past two days police have seized some 50 vehicles, lining them up in the street to serve as a warning to other men - Iran holy city ups fine for unveiled women

FOR NEDA reveals the true story of Neda Agha-Soltan, who became another tragic casualty of Iran's violent crackdown on post-election protests on June 20, 2009. Unlike many unknown victims, however, she instantly became an international symbol of the struggle: Within hours of Agha-Soltan's death, cell phone photographs of her blood-stained face were held aloft by crowds protesting in Tehran and across the world. With exclusive access to her family inside Iran, the documentary goes to the heart of who Neda was and what she stood for, illuminating the larger Iranian struggle for democratic freedoms through her powerful story. Directed by Antony Thomas.

Iranian, July 17, 2010: As protests against the stoning of Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani arose amongst the public and western officials, the IRI embassy in London announced that the verdict would not be stoned to death. Now, it is feared that the Islamic Republic of Iran may decide to suddenly execute all those sentenced to stoning, either by stoning or hanging, in an attempt to quiet the rising western opposition as quickly as possible. The Iranian embassy in London did not mention that Sakineh would be released, just that she would not be stoned to death, leaving open the possibility of her being hanged instead. Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani is only one of the thirteen known people who are sentenced to death by stoning. There may be more cases that we are unaware of in small towns where news reporters and human rights defenders have little activity, and these victims die in silence - Crushed under stones

Military.com, July 22, 2010: Iran is supporting three Shiite extremist groups in Iraq that have been attempting to attack U.S. bases, Gen. Ray Odierno, the top U.S. commander in Iraq, said Wednesday. For the past four years, the U.S. military has blamed Iran for supporting violent anti-U.S. groups operating in Iraq, but has been unable to establish a clear link with the government in Tehran. "The Iranians ... continue to fund, train and provide weapons and ammunition to Shiite extremist groups," Odierno told reporters here. The Iranians have "gone to a more sophisticated program with a smaller set of extremists" and are now focusing on three groups, which he identified as Ketaib Hezbollah, Asaib Ahl al-Haq, and the Promise Day Brigade. "It's very difficult to say if the extremist groups are directly connected to the Iranian government," he said. "But we do know that many of them live in Iran, many of them get trained in Iran, and many of them get weapons from Iran," he said. Odierno said U.S. officials believe that Iranian Revolutionary Guards' elite Quds Force is involved in training and funding the groups - Odierno: Iran Supports Iraq Insurgents

UPI, September 13, 2010: If the United States or Israel attacks Iran, a key figure in unleashing the threatened retaliation by Tehran is a general in the Revolutionary Guards who until quite recently was little known, even to Western intelligence services. Brig. Gen. Qassem Suleimani, who commands the Guards Corps' elite and largely clandestine al-Quds Force, has long been the invisible man in Iran's intelligence hierarchy and an enigma to the U.S. intelligence community that is one of his main adversaries. He's hailed as a national hero in Iran but has rarely been seen in public. Until recently the Americans and their allies knew little about him. In 2000, he was given command of al-Quds Force, which has been linked to most of the terrorist incidents over the last three decades in which an Iranian hand was detected - Special Reports: Iran's 'invisible man' runs terror net

The Jerusalem Post, September 28, 2010: Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad plans to throw a rock at Israel to demonstrate his hatred on his planned trip to Lebanon. Ahmadinejad plans to meet with Lebanese President Michel Suleiman, as well as other Lebanese officials, on October 13. During the two-day visit, the Iranian president will participate in events near the Israeli border. One event is the inauguration of a garden in southern Lebanon, during which Ahmadinejad plans to throw the rock, Al-Quds reported - Ahmadinejad to throw rocks at Israeli border

Aviation Week, October 15, 2010: The North Korean military parade last weekend does more than give world exposure to the heir apparent to Pyongyang’s leadership. It also revealed a new road-mobile ballistic missile — a variant of the BM-25 Musudan with a projected range of 3,000-4,000 km. (1,900-2,500 mi.). Even more intriguing, North Korea’s weaponry is showing design characteristics associated with the Shahab 3, Iran’s most advanced missile. Such evidence is leading some international analysts to the conclusion that the ballistic missile development ties between the two countries are active and producing improvements in the arsenals of both - Iranian Missile Tech Appears in North Korea

Aviation Week, October 18, 2010: Evidence continues to emerge that ballistic missile development ties between North Korea and Iran are active and producing improvements in the arsenals of both countries. The Wall Street Journal, November 22, 2010: Iran's parliament revealed it planned to impeach President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad but refrained under orders from Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, exposing a deepening division within the regime. Lawmakers also launched a new petition to bring a debate on the president's impeachment, conservative newspapers reported Monday. The reports of challenges to Mr. Ahmadinejad were intended as retorts to a powerful body of clerics that urged Mr. Khamenei to curb the parliament's authority and give greater clout to the president. In a report released Sunday and discussed in parliament Monday, four prominent lawmakers laid out the most extensive public criticism of Mr. Ahmadinejad to date. They accused him and his government of 14 counts of violating the law - Assembly Pushes to Oust Iran President

TehranBureau, December 19, 2010: In a nationally televised program Saturday night, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad announced the process of reducing and ultimately eliminating the subsidies that the government has provided over the past three decades to certain essential commodities such as oil, water, gasoline, and natural gas. [...] As soon as Ahmadinejad made the announcement, long lines formed at gas stations. [...] At the same time, there are long lines at ATMs, presumably because people have begun taking out the cash that the government deposited in their accounts in return for the subsidy cuts. The increase in fuel prices is having an immediate effect. [...] Fares for intercity travel have increased by 125 percent. The price of gasoline for domestic airlines has risen by 200 percent -- though the government has announced that they are not allowed to increase fares, the cost of flying will inevitably rise. Naturally, such increases will raise the price of everything else. The price of electricity has tripled from 0.75 cents/KWh to 2.2 cents/KWh. The price of water has similarly increased by a factor of three. The price of natural gas for home heating and cooking has increased by a factor of four, and for vehicle fuel by a factor of ten. The price of flour has increased by a factor of 40. But the government has warned bakeries that, for now, they are not allowed to increase the price of bread under threat of prosecution - Subsidy Cuts Begin, Basic Commodity Prices Skyrocket

PJM, December 21, 2010: The port of Bandar Abbas is one of Iran’s major shipping hubs, as well as a big naval base in the Straits of Hormuz, and the site of a big refinery. It is now in chaos. Thousands of trucks, many of them loaded with imported foodstuffs, commercial goods of all description, and even oil products, have blocked the city’s roads, effectively ending all movement in and around the port. The drivers simply shut down their rigs, took the coils out of the engines, and walked away. On the water, there’s a similar shutdown of the hundreds of small boats and ferries that usually carry thousands of people each day to the nearby islands as well as to Dubai. They have clogged the harbor, and nothing is moving. This is the result of the Iranian regime’s cancellation of energy subsidies, proudly announced by President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Sunday - Iranian Chaos: Spontaneous Revolt Against the Regime
