University of Arkansas, September 19, 2011: Assembly of nanostructures using DNA may lead to the production of new materials with a wide range of applications from electronics to tissue engineering. Researchers in the Institute for Nanoscience and Engineering at the University of Arkansas have produced building blocks for such material by controlling the number, placement and orientation of DNA linkers on the surface of colloidal nanoparticles. Their work is featured as thehot paperin the current issue of Angewandte Chemie International Edition, the weekly scientific journal of the German Chemical Society - Researchers Link DNA to Nanostructures

Institute of Physics, October 4, 2011: Scientists have created a working cloaking device that not only takes advantage of one of nature’s most bizarre phenomenon, but also boasts unique features; it has an ‘on and off’ switch and is best used underwater. The researchers, from the University of Texas at Dallas, have demonstrated the device’s ability to make objects disappear in a fascinating video - "Mirage-effect" helps researchers hide objects

Stanford University, October 24, 2011: Using carbon nanotubes bent to act as springs, Stanford researchers have developed a stretchable, transparent skin-like sensor. The sensor can be stretched to more than twice its original length and bounce back perfectly to its original shape. It can sense pressure from a firm pinch to thousands of pounds. The sensor could have applications in prosthetic limbs, robotics and touch-sensitive computer displays - Stanford researchers build transparent, super-stretchy skin-like sensor

Vienna University of Technology, March 12, 2012: Printing three dimensional objects with incredibly fine details is now possible using “two-photon lithography”. With this technology, tiny structures on a nanometer scale can be fabricated. Researchers at the Vienna University of Technology (TU Vienna) have now made a major breakthrough in speeding up this printing technique: The high-precision-3D-printer at TU Vienna is orders of magnitude faster than similar devices (see video). This opens up completely new areas of application, such as in medicine - Ultra-high-resolution 3D Printer Breaks Speed-Records at Vienna University of Technology

University of Michigan, December 19, 2012: A carbon-nanotube-coated lens that converts light to sound can focus high-pressure sound waves to finer points than ever before. The University of Michigan engineering researchers who developed the new therapeutic ultrasound approach say it could lead to an invisible knife for noninvasive surgery - Super-fine sound beam could one day be an invisible scalpel
