Kommersiell produksjon er visstnok ventet i løpet av inneværende år. De lover mye:

The Globe and Mail, January 17, 2011: In September, a privately held and highly secretive U.S. biotech company named Joule Unlimited received a patent for “a proprietary organism” – a genetically engineered cyanobacterium that produces liquid hydrocarbons: diesel fuel, jet fuel and gasoline. This breakthrough technology, the company says, will deliver renewable supplies of liquid fossil fuel almost anywhere on Earth, in essentially unlimited quantity and at an energy-cost equivalent of $30 (U.S.) a barrel of crude oil. It will deliver, the company says, “fossil fuels on demand” - A brave new world of fossil fuels on demand

A still more glorious dawn awaits: not a sunrise, but a galaxy rise - a morning filled with four hundred billion suns.

Shell, May 20, 2011: The Board of Royal Dutch Shell plc (Shell) has taken the final investment decision on the Prelude Floating Liquefied Natural Gas (FLNG) Project in Australia (100% Shell), building the world’s first FLNG facility. Moored far out to sea, some 200 kilometres from the nearest land in Australia, the FLNG facility will produce gas from offshore fields, and liquefy it onboard by cooling - Shell decides to move forward with groundbreaking Floating LNG

PennLive.com, May 29, 2011: Nearly 48,000 people have been hired in the last year by industries related to drilling in the Marcellus Shale, and 71 percent of those people were Pennsylvania residents. Nine thousand of them were hired in the first three months of 2011. The average salary was higher than the statewide average. And the rate of hiring is accelerating. While there has been much talk of the economic impact of the Marcellus, most of it has been anecdotal, until the Department of Labor and Industry quietly published its most up-to-date hard numbers about two weeks ago. The report was released with such little fanfare that even Katie Klaber didn’t know about it. Klaber is the head of the Marcellus Shale Coalition, the main industry group representing the top 20 companies active in Pennsylvania. [...] With just the 9,000 new hires in the first three months of this year, Klaber said, “If even a fraction of those were announced by some new company coming in, people would be falling over themselves. This is happening in multiples of what would have been done in the past with taxpayer dollars. Here the market economy is doing it independently” - Marcellus Shale drilling creates 48,000 jobs, report says

Power Line, June 2, 2011: You can imagine a world in which energy sources like solar, wind and biomass are the best and most efficient available. But here on planet Earth, fossil fuels are our best source of energy. Happily, as a recent Congressional Research Service report concluded, the country that has the largest total fossil fuel resources is not Russia or Saudi Arabia. It is the United States. In fact, the United States and the world have plenty of petroleum and coal to last more or less forever at what would be--absent atrocious government policies--declining prices. Michael Lind sums up the implications of the development of extraction techniques that open up vast new petroleum resources in "Everything you've heard about fossil fuels may be wrong" - Fossil Fuels Are the Future

France 24, June 2, 2011: Oil production in Canada, the largest supplier to the United States, is forecast to jump 68 percent to 4.7 million barrels per day by 2025, the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers said Thursday. The rise in production from 2.8 billion barrels in 2010, largely in the Athabasca oil sands of Western Canada, reflects an improved investment climate, more robust commodity prices and increased market demand, the association said - Canada to increase oil production 68% by 2025

Financial Post, June 10, 2011: The old energy order in the Middle East is crumbling with Iran and Syria having left the Western fold and others, including Saudi Arabia, the largest of them all, in danger of doing so. Simultaneously, a new energy order is emerging to give the West some spine. In this new order, Israel is a major player. The new energy order is founded on rock – the shale that traps vast stores of energy in deposits around the world. One of the largest deposits – 250 billion barrels of oil in Israel’s Shfela basin, comparable to Saudi Arabia’s entire reserves of 260 billion barrels of oil – has until now been unexploited - Lawrence Solomon: Israel’s new energy

NoTricksZone, June 29, 2011: Die Welt, one of Germany’s flagship dailies, wrote up a comprehensive assessment of solar energy as a supply of energy to meet demand titled: The Great Solar Swindle. The authors of the piece, Daniel Wetzel and Reto Klar, as suggested by the title, conclude that solar energy is a well-executed swindle that was and is promoted by slick industry lobbyists - The Great Solar Swindle

Houston Chronicle, June 30, 2011: New York state will take a step toward the type of drilling that swept across states including Pennsylvania in recent years by releasing draft rules for hydraulic fracturing to extract natural gas from shale. The guidelines, set for release today, would ban drilling in watersheds that supply New York City and Syracuse while opening up about 85 percent of New York's portion of the Marcellus Shale to development, according to the New York Department of Environmental Conservation - N.Y. takes step to lift state ban on fracturing

UPI, July 25, 2011: Iran, Iraq and Syria say they're set to sign an official contract to construct a natural gas pipeline connecting Iran's South Pars field to European customers. Iran's state-run Press TV announced that a deal between Iran's interim Oil Minister Mohammad Aliabadi and his Iraqi and Syrian counterparts -- the biggest of its in the kind in the Middle East -- would be signed at Asalouyeh, Iran. It was described as the next step in a process began three years ago to establish a 56-inch "Islamic Pipeline" to compete for European customers with the proposed Nabucco pipeline, which is to run from Azerbaijan's Caspian Sea gas fields through Turkey to Austria - 'Islamic pipeline' seeks Euro gas markets

Rice University, July 20, 2011: Rising U.S. natural gas production from shale formations has already played a critical role in weakening Russia’s ability to wield an "energy weapon" over its European customers, and this trend will accelerate in the coming decades, according to a new Baker Institute study, "Shale Gas and U.S. National Security." The study, funded by the U.S. Department of Energy, projects that Russia’s natural gas market share in Western Europe will decline to as little as 13 percent by 2040, down from 27 percent in 2009. "The geopolitical repercussions of expanding U.S. shale gas production are going to be enormous," said Amy Myers Jaffe, the Wallace S. Wilson Fellow for Energy Studies and one of the authors of the study. "By increasing alternative supplies to Europe in the form of liquefied natural gas (LNG) displaced from the U.S. market, the petro-power of Russia, Venezuela and Iran is faltering on the back of plentiful American natural gas supply" - US shale gas weakening Russian, Iranian petro-power, Baker Institute study finds

PhysicsCentral, August 22, 2011: A New York Times article this Sunday reported that General Electric (G.E.) has successfully used a new laser-based method to enrich uranium, the element used in both nuclear reactors and nuclear bombs. The laser technique could help to produce enriched uranium, used in nuclear power plants, more efficiently than with current methods. Opponents of the technique, however, worry about the new method leaking to rogue nations wishing to make weapons - Lasers are the new school for enriching uranium
